The Affenpinscher began as a German stable and kitchen ratter. Its name means "monkey pinscher," a nod to the bearded, wide-eyed face. Adults weigh about 7 to 12 pounds and wear a harsh, shaggy coat, most often black, with a mane around the head and shoulders.
Many Affenpinschers are confident, curious and a little comical, with more swagger than their size suggests. They bond closely with their people, notice every sound and may boss around bigger dogs. In Las Vegas, where dogs share dog runs and apartment corridors with plenty of neighbors, early socialization and calm manners matter. They tend to suit adults or families with older children, though each dog differs.
