Husky is a catch-all label for northern sled dogs. In listings it usually points to a Siberian Husky or a Siberian mix, though some are Alaskan huskies, a mixed racing type, or have Alaskan Malamute in them. Most weigh roughly 35 to 70 pounds and share erect ears, a thick double coat, a brush tail and sometimes blue or mismatched eyes.
Many are friendly, playful and talkative, with more howling than barking. They're also independent, quick to chase small animals, and talented diggers and escape artists. Shedding is heavy, especially when the coat blows twice a year, so a good brush and a strong vacuum earn their keep. Dogs in this group vary a lot, so judge each dog by its own behavior rather than the label.
