Temperament
Appenzellers tend to be confident, watchful and quick to bark at anything unusual, and many are wary of strangers. With their own people they're often affectionate and playful. Herding instincts can show up as chasing or nipping at running children or pets, so early socialization and consistent, reward-based training help, though every dog differs.
