Temperament
Appenzellers are usually confident, watchful and wary of strangers, with a loud bark for anything unusual. With their own family they can be playful and affectionate. Herding instincts may show up as chasing or nipping at children or pets. In Minneapolis's busier areas, early socialization to hallways, elevators and sidewalk traffic is especially useful.
