The Yorkshire Terrier started out as a working ratter in the mills and mines of nineteenth-century northern England. Adults are tiny, usually four to eight pounds, with a fine, silky blue-and-tan coat that grows like human hair and sheds very little. Despite the size, most carry a bold terrier attitude and bond tightly with their people.
In Evansville, that coat is the main routine to plan for. Brushing a few times a week, or daily in full length, keeps tangles away, and many owners choose a shorter cut for the humid summers. Plan on professional grooming every six to eight weeks, daily tooth care and patient house training. Yorkies are fragile around rough play, so they do best in calm homes where people watch where they step.
