The Miniature Poodle is the middle of the three Poodle sizes, standing over 10 and up to 15 inches tall and usually weighing 10 to 15 pounds. Poodles started out as water retrievers in Germany and France, and the smaller sizes became companions and circus performers. The dense, curly single coat grows continuously and sheds very little, though loose hair stays trapped in the curls and needs brushing out. Colors run from black and white to apricot, silver and red.
Miniature Poodles are lively, alert and quick to learn, and many want to be part of everything the family does. A bored Poodle can turn noisy or demanding, while one with daily training and play tends to settle well. In Marietta's damp climate, expect brushing several times a week and a professional groom every four to eight weeks.
