Boxers developed in late-1800s Germany, when the Bullenbeisser, a hunting dog, was crossed with English Bulldogs. The result is a square, muscular dog with a short, shiny coat in fawn or brindle, often with white markings and a black mask. Adults usually weigh 50 to 80 pounds, and the coat needs little more than a weekly rub-down.
Many Boxers are clownish and affectionate, and they stay puppyish for years. In Naples, that energy has to fit around warm weather, so plan on morning and evening outings, indoor play and patient, reward-based training. Their short faces make them prone to overheating, and the breed carries real heart and cancer risks, so an early vet visit is wise. Dogs vary, and many Boxers in shelters are mixes.
