The American Bully was developed in the United States in the 1980s and 1990s, mostly from the American Pit Bull Terrier, with American Staffordshire Terrier and bulldog breeds mixed in. The aim was a companion with a heavier, more muscular frame and a calm, people-loving nature. Bullies come in Pocket, Standard, Classic and XL sizes, with a short coat in nearly any color.
Many are affectionate, eager to please and happiest leaning against someone. In Fort Myers, their strength and heat sensitivity shape daily life: leash manners matter on busy sidewalks, and heavier dogs need shade, water and a cool place indoors. Dogs vary, so a Bully's history and training say more than its looks.
