Husky is a catch-all label for northern sled dogs. In practice it usually means a Siberian Husky or a Siberian mix, though some dogs carry Alaskan husky racing lines or a bit of Alaskan Malamute. They share erect triangular ears, a thick double coat, a brush tail and sometimes two different eye colors. Most weigh roughly 35 to 70 pounds.
Huskies are usually friendly, playful and independent, and they talk more than they bark. They shed heavily, dig, chase small animals and are talented escape artists, so Modesto's long, hot summers and backyard fences both need some planning. Dogs vary, and a mix may be calmer or more intense than the typical Siberian. Many are young adults whose energy outgrew their first home.
