Husky is a broad label for northern sled dogs rather than one breed. In Tuscaloosa it most often means a Siberian Husky or a Siberian mix, though Alaskan huskies and dogs with some Malamute can carry the name too. They share erect triangular ears, a thick double coat, a brush tail and sometimes blue or mismatched eyes.
Most weigh roughly 35 to 70 pounds and were built to run all day in a team. Many are friendly, playful and talkative, but also independent, prone to digging and escaping, and not always reliable off leash. In Alabama's humid climate, the coat and the stamina both take planning. Dogs vary a lot, especially mixes, so spend time with a dog before deciding.
