Temperament
Appenzellers are usually lively, confident and watchful, and many bark at unfamiliar sounds, which matters in Birmingham's closer-knit neighborhoods. They're often reserved with strangers and affectionate with family. Herding instinct can show up as chasing or nipping at children or pets. Early socialization and reward-based training help, though each dog differs.
