The Balinese is essentially a longhaired Siamese. It was developed in the United States in the 1940s and 1950s and named for the graceful movement of Balinese dancers, not for any link to Indonesia. It has the Siamese colorpoint pattern and blue eyes, a slender body, and a silky single coat that ends in a plumed tail.
Many Balinese are social, playful and talkative, though usually a bit quieter than Siamese. They enjoy puzzle toys, fetch and high perches, and they tend to dislike long stretches alone. That matters in Milwaukee, where cold months mean more time indoors. The coat has no dense undercoat, so grooming is light. Personalities still vary, especially in adult cats, so spend time with a cat before deciding.
