A Chinchilla is usually a Persian with silver tipping: each long white hair ends in a dash of black, so the coat shimmers like frost. The look traces to Silver Lambkin, an English cat born in 1882. Most registries treat chinchilla as a Persian color rather than a separate breed. Eyes are green or blue-green, often rimmed in dark pigment, and golden chinchillas exist too.
Many Chinchillas are calm, gentle and quiet, and they do best in predictable homes. Plan on daily combing, regular baths and face cleaning, plus veterinary attention for Persian risks like kidney disease and breathing or eye trouble from a flatter face. Living indoors suits this cat, and it keeps that long coat clean.
