Bengals look like small wild cats, with a sleek, muscular build and a spotted, rosetted or marbled coat that often glitters in the light. The breed started in the United States in the 1960s with crosses between domestic cats and the Asian leopard cat, but pet Bengals today are fully domestic. Adults usually weigh 8 to 15 pounds, and many stay playful well past kittenhood.
In Virginia Beach, that energy is the main thing to plan for. Bengals love to climb, fetch, open cabinets and play in running water, so shelves, a tall tree and daily play sessions suit them. Their short coat sheds lightly and needs only occasional brushing. Bengals aren't hypoallergenic, and each one varies, so spend time with a cat before deciding.
