Despite the name, the Balinese has no connection to Bali. It's a longhaired Siamese, developed in the United States in the 1940s and 1950s and named for the graceful movement of Balinese dancers. It has the Siamese colorpoint pattern and blue eyes, a slender body and a silky, plumed tail. Both a sleek modern type and a sturdier traditional type exist.
Most Balinese are social, playful and quick learners, a little quieter than a Siamese but still happy to talk. The single coat has no dense undercoat, so it rarely mats and grooming stays easy. Boredom is the bigger challenge: these cats want a perch, a puzzle feeder and your attention, which makes an indoor home with a good window view a natural fit in Virginia Beach.
