The Havana, called the Havana Brown by some registries, was developed in Britain in the 1950s by pairing chocolate-carrying Siamese cats with black domestic shorthairs. The result is a medium, muscular cat of about 6 to 10 pounds with a glossy chocolate coat, brown whiskers, green eyes, large forward-tilted ears and a squared-off muzzle. The short coat needs little more than a weekly brush.
Havanas are curious, people-focused cats that often investigate with a paw and chat in a softer voice than a Siamese. The breed is genuinely rare, so in Salt Lake City you're more likely to meet brown shorthairs and Havana mixes than a registered Havana. Each cat has its own personality, so look at the cat in front of you, not just the coat color.
