Chinchilla describes a silver-tipped coat, most often on Persian cats. Each long white hair is tipped with black, which gives the coat a frosted shimmer, and the eyes are green or blue-green with dark rims. The look traces to Silver Lambkin, an English cat born in 1882. Most registries treat chinchilla as a Persian color rather than a separate breed, so cats listed as Chinchillas are usually Persians or Persian mixes.
The usual personality is calm, gentle and quiet, though each cat varies. In SLC that often means a cat who is happy on the couch through a snowy week, but who still needs daily combing, eye wiping and regular baths to keep the long coat from matting. Kidney, heart and breathing problems are worth knowing about before you adopt.
