Russian Blues are slender, fine-boned shorthairs with a dense, plush double coat of even blue-grey tipped in silver, and vivid green eyes. The breed is believed to come from the Archangel region of northern Russia, reached Britain by ship in the nineteenth century, and was later refined in Britain, Scandinavia and the United States. Plenty of grey cats are domestic shorthairs, so color alone doesn't confirm the breed.
Many Russian Blues are gentle, quiet and devoted to their own people while staying reserved with strangers. They like routine, notice shifts in mood and enjoy games that challenge their quick minds. The short coat is easy to keep, but a healthy appetite calls for portion control. Cats vary, so a Russian Blue's own history and personality matter as much as the breed.
