Torbie is a coat pattern, not a breed. The name blends tortoiseshell and tabby: patches of black-based and orange-based color with tabby stripes, swirls or spots running through them, often with the M marking on the forehead. Nearly all torbies are female, and the pattern comes in brown, blue-and-cream and silver versions.
Most torbies in Chattanooga homes are domestic shorthairs or longhairs, so weight typically runs from 6 to 14 pounds and lifespans of 12 to 18 years are common. Shedding is moderate, and a weekly brushing handles most coats. Coat color doesn't predict personality, so spend time with the cat in front of you. Since a torbie can live well into her teens, think about how she'll fit your plans for years to come, including moves between Chattanooga's rentals and houses.
