Chinchilla cats are Persian-type cats with a silver coloring: each long white hair is tipped with black, giving the coat a frosted shimmer. The look traces to an English cat named Silver Lambkin, born in 1882. Most registries treat chinchilla as a Persian color rather than a separate breed. Green or blue-green eyes outlined in dark pigment complete the picture, and golden Chinchillas exist too.
Many Chinchillas are calm, gentle and quiet, and they tend to like predictable routines, which makes them natural indoor cats in a city of older homes and busy streets. Expect daily combing, regular baths and face cleaning, and plan for Persian health risks such as kidney disease and breathing or eye problems. Cats vary, so a cat's own personality counts for more than its coat.
