The Havana, called the Havana Brown by some registries, came out of Britain in the 1950s, when chocolate-carrying Siamese were paired with black domestic shorthairs. The result is a medium cat of about 6 to 10 pounds with a glossy chocolate coat, brown whiskers, green eyes, large forward-tilted ears and a squared-off muzzle. The short coat sheds little.
Havanas are usually curious, talkative in a soft voice, and happiest when they're included in what the household is doing, sometimes patting at things or people with a paw. That suits OKC homes with someone around part of the day, a sunny window and space for a cat tree. The breed is genuinely rare, so brown shorthairs and Havana mixes are the cats most adopters will meet, and each cat's personality matters more than a label.
