Ragdolls are large, blue-eyed, semi-longhaired cats that trace back to Riverside, California, in the 1960s. All of them are pointed, with darker color on the face, ears, legs and tail, in colorpoint, mitted, bicolor or van patterns. Males often reach 12 to 20 pounds, and the cats keep filling out until around age four. Their silky coat has little woolly undercoat, so it mats less than many long coats, though weekly combing helps, especially during seasonal shedding.
Many Ragdolls are gentle and people-oriented, following their person from room to room and relaxing when held, though not every cat goes floppy. Their trusting nature makes indoor life the safer choice, which suits Toledo's cold winters and busy streets. Moderate play keeps weight in check, and heart screening is a key part of their veterinary care. Personalities vary, so spend time with a cat before deciding.
