The American Bobtail is a medium-sized, muscular cat, usually 7 to 16 pounds, with a naturally short tail about a third to half the usual length. The breed began with Yodie, a bobtailed stray found in Arizona. The coat can be short or medium-long in nearly any color and pattern, often with a wild tabby look.
Bobtails are clever, playful and people-oriented, and they mature slowly, over two to three years, so a young adult may still act like a kitten. Weekly brushing handles most coats, and shedding is moderate. In Las Vegas, that adds up to a cat that does well in an air-conditioned home with plenty of vertical space and a household that enjoys interactive play.
