Siamese cats trace back to the pointed cats of Thailand, once called Siam, and they were among the first breeds recognized by cat registries. The slim, medium-sized body, darker face, ears, paws and tail, and vivid blue almond eyes are easy to spot, and the short single coat lies close to the body. Many cats with Siamese coloring are mixes, so a pointed coat alone doesn't settle breed or personality.
Many Siamese are talkative, clever and devoted to their people, and they're happiest with company and plenty to do. In Santa Fe, where winter keeps cats indoors for long stretches, play matters: wand toys, puzzle feeders and a window with a view. Weekly brushing is usually enough for the coat, so the real commitment is time and attention.
