The Chausie is a tall, long-legged domestic cat developed from crosses between the jungle cat and domestic breeds such as the Abyssinian. TICA accepted it for registration in 1995 and granted championship status in 2013. The short coat comes in black, black ticked tabby or the breed's grizzled tabby, and most adults weigh 8 to 16 pounds, with large ears set high on the head.
Cats several generations removed from the jungle cat are fully domestic, and many are intelligent, playful and very social. They often dislike being alone, so a busy household or a second lively cat suits them. Some have sensitive digestion, and early-generation hybrids are more demanding. Chausies are uncommon, so watch the listings on this page, and consider similar breeds or saving a search.
