Siamese descend from the pointed cats of Thailand, once called Siam, and were among the first breeds recognized by cat registries in the early 1900s. They're medium, long-lined cats, usually 6 to 14 pounds, with a short, fine coat, a pale body, darker points on the face, ears, paws and tail, and vivid blue almond eyes. Shedding is low to moderate.
Siamese are known for being vocal, smart and closely attached to their people, with a loud, raspy voice they use freely. In a Springfield household that's empty most of the day, a Siamese may turn noisy or destructive. Siamese-mix cats often share the pointed coloring and chatty nature, though each cat's personality varies.
