The Balinese is essentially a longhaired Siamese. Longhair kittens kept turning up in Siamese litters, and the breed took shape in the United States in the 1940s and 1950s. Despite the name, it has no link to Bali; it's named for the graceful way Balinese dancers move. Expect a slender body, vivid blue eyes, Siamese colorpoint markings and a silky coat ending in a plumed tail.
Many Balinese are bright, social and playful, with a voice that's softer than a Siamese's but still chatty. They tend to enjoy fetch, puzzle toys and high perches. With no dense undercoat, the coat is easy to care for, but these cats usually want company. Adult cats vary, so spend time with the cat in front of you.
