Siamese cats trace back to the pointed cats of Thailand, once called Siam, and reached the United States in the late 1800s. The pale body with a darker face, ears, paws and tail comes from a temperature-sensitive pigment gene, which is why the points deepen with age. The coat is short, fine and single-layered, and the build is long and lean.
Siamese are known for being talkative, clever and closely bonded to their people. That suits Columbia households where someone is around often, such as remote workers or busy families. A bored Siamese can turn loud or destructive, so puzzle feeders and daily play matter. Many pointed cats in adoption listings are Siamese mixes, and personalities vary, so each cat's own behavior tells you more than the label.
