Chinchilla cats are usually Persians with a silver coat: each long white hair is tipped in black, so the fur shimmers like frost. The look goes back to an English cat named Silver Lambkin, born in 1882. Most registries treat chinchilla as a Persian color rather than a separate breed. Kittens are often born with faint tabby markings and blue eyes that turn green, and golden chinchillas exist too.
Many Chinchillas are calm, soft-spoken and happiest in predictable homes, which suits a quiet Minneapolis apartment or a house in Linden Hills. The coat is the real commitment, with daily combing, regular baths and face cleaning. Cats vary, so some are more playful or more social than the usual description, and a Persian mix may have a slightly different coat or face.
