The Burmilla began in Britain in 1981, when a Chinchilla Persian male accidentally mated with a lilac Burmese female and produced four shaded silver kittens. The name blends Burmese and Chinchilla. Burmillas are medium-sized and muscular, weighing about 6 to 13 pounds, with green eyes that look outlined in dark liner and a shimmering coat that's pale at the roots and tipped or shaded with color.
Many combine the Burmese's playful, sociable side with the Persian's calm, and they often stay kittenish well into adulthood without being demanding. Both shorthaired and semi-longhaired coats are easy to care for. In a Minneapolis home, that means a companion who enjoys company and games but doesn't need much space. The breed is uncommon in North America, and cats vary in personality.
