The Havana, called the Havana Brown by some registries, came out of Britain in the 1950s from chocolate-carrying Siamese crossed with black domestic shorthairs. It's known for a glossy chocolate coat, brown whiskers, green eyes, large forward-tilted ears and a squared-off muzzle. Most weigh 6 to 10 pounds, with a muscular but moderate build, and many live 10 to 15 years.
Havanas are people-focused cats that like to help with whatever is going on, often patting at objects and people to investigate. Many chat in a softer voice than a Siamese. Their short coat sheds little, so care is simple. Because registered Havanas are rare, the listings on this page, similar breeds and nearby cities are the best way to find a Havana-type cat, and you can save a search to hear about new arrivals.
