A Chinchilla is usually a Persian with silver tipping: each long white hair ends in a dab of black, which gives the coat a frosted shimmer. The look traces back to Silver Lambkin, born in England in 1882. Green or blue-green eyes outlined in dark pigment finish it off, and golden chinchillas exist too. Most registries treat chinchilla as a Persian color rather than a separate breed.
Many Chinchillas are calm, gentle and quiet, and they tend to prefer predictable homes, though every cat differs. The coat takes daily combing, regular baths and face cleaning, which is easier to keep up in an air-conditioned home than a muggy one. Persian health risks such as kidney disease and breathing or eye trouble are worth planning for with a veterinarian.
