The Burmilla began in Britain in 1981, when a Chinchilla Persian male and a lilac Burmese female mated by accident and produced four shaded silver kittens. The name blends Burmese and Chinchilla. Burmillas are medium-sized, usually 6 to 13 pounds, with green eyes that look outlined in dark liner and a silky coat that is pale at the root and tipped with color.
Many pair the Burmese's playfulness with the Persian's calm, staying kittenish into adulthood without being demanding. They're usually quiet and sociable. Both coat lengths are easy to keep up, though they do shed some, so a weekly comb helps. Cats vary, so a Burmilla's own personality matters more than any breed description.
