The Chinchilla is usually a Persian with a silver coat, where each long white hair is tipped with black so the fur shimmers like frost. The look traces to an English cat named Silver Lambkin, born in 1882. Most registries treat chinchilla as a Persian color, not a separate breed, so cats listed as Chinchillas are often Persians or Persian mixes. Green or blue-green eyes rimmed in dark pigment finish the look.
Many share the Persian's calm, quiet temperament and do best in predictable homes, though each cat differs. The glamorous coat is real work: daily combing, regular baths and face cleaning. Adopters should also plan for Persian health risks, including kidney disease and breathing and eye problems tied to a flatter face.
