The Abyssinian is a medium, lithe, muscular cat with a short ticked coat, where each hair carries several bands of color, plus large ears and almond eyes. The name points to Ethiopia, but genetic research suggests the breed's ancestors came from the Indian Ocean coast and Southeast Asia, and the breed itself was developed in Britain.
Abys are busy, inquisitive and people-focused, though many prefer playing beside you to lounging in your lap. In Wichita, where hot summers and cold winters keep most cats indoors much of the year, that energy needs an outlet: daily interactive play, tall perches and puzzle feeders. Short wand-toy sessions morning and evening go a long way. Every cat differs, so spend time with the one you're considering.
