Siamese descend from the pointed cats of Thailand, once called Siam, and were among the first breeds recognized by cat registries. They're medium-sized, lean and muscular, usually 6 to 14 pounds, with a short single coat, large ears and vivid blue almond eyes. The darker face, ears, paws and tail come from a temperature-sensitive pigment gene, and the points often deepen with age.
In a Decatur home, the bigger question is company. Siamese are intelligent and strongly people-oriented, and many voice loud opinions when they're bored or alone. Puzzle feeders, climbing space and a person who enjoys the conversation matter more than the address. Many pointed cats in shelters are Siamese mixes, so coloring only hints at personality; each cat's own behavior is the better guide.
