Your guide to finding and caring for a Domestic Medium Hair in Roswell
A Domestic Medium Hair fits Roswell's wooded subdivisions and apartment complexes about equally well. Whether it's a house in Martin's Landing or a one-bedroom off Holcomb Bridge Road, these fluffy mixed-ancestry cats mostly want a sunny window and a steady routine. The semi-long coat sheds more than a shorthair's, so a few brushings a week help, especially once Roswell's humid summers set in. Coat length says nothing about personality, so keep a brush by the couch and let the cat's own temperament guide you.

Domestic Medium Hair
Domestic Medium Hair is a coat description, not a breed. It's the label used for mixed-ancestry house cats whose fur falls between short and long: fluffier than a domestic shorthair, often with a plumed tail, tufts between the toes and a soft undercoat, but without a heavy ruff. They come in every color and pattern, from tabby and tuxedo to calico and solid black.
Because ancestry is mixed, size, personality and health vary from cat to cat. Most weigh 6 to 14 pounds and live 12 to 18 years. In Roswell, a few brushing sessions a week keep the undercoat from matting, with extra sessions during the spring and fall shedding. The best guide to temperament is meeting the cat.
Having a Domestic Medium Hair in Roswell
A Domestic Medium Hair's traits come from mixed ancestry, upbringing and age rather than a breed standard. In Roswell, the practical differences are coat care in a humid climate and keeping a cat safely indoors in a city where coyotes have been reported.
Temperament runs from shy lap cat to bold, chatty explorer, since personality follows each cat's genes and early experiences. Many are adaptable and affectionate once settled. In a quiet Roswell subdivision or a busier apartment complex, a cat's comfort with noise, visitors and other pets matters more than its fluffy looks. Spend time with the cat before deciding.
Expect moderate energy: bursts of chasing and climbing, then long naps. Two or three play sessions a day with wand toys, balls or treat puzzles keep a cat fit, which matters when Roswell's hot, humid summer days keep everyone indoors. Kittens and young adults need more play, while seniors prefer gentler games and warm spots to rest.
Mixed ancestry brings genetic diversity, but cats still face dental disease, obesity, urinary problems and kidney disease with age. The fuller coat can cause hairballs and mats without brushing. Roswell's long warm, humid season makes flea prevention worth discussing with a veterinarian, along with vaccines and yearly checkups.
A Domestic Medium Hair adapts to apartments and houses alike when it has scratching posts, perches and hiding spots. Indoor living is safest in Roswell, where coyotes have been reported and traffic runs heavy on roads like Holcomb Bridge. A window perch or catio gives outdoor interest. Shy cats appreciate a quiet room while settling in.

Yes. Roswell has no known breed rules, and Domestic Medium Hair is a coat type, not a breed. Adopters mainly need a landlord's approval if renting, plus the rabies vaccination and county license every cat needs. Because availability changes often, watch the listings on this page or save a search to hear when new cats arrive.
Yes, a Domestic Medium Hair usually does well in a Roswell apartment, provided it has perches, scratchers and daily play. Many complexes sit along busy corridors like Holcomb Bridge Road, so a window view and a quiet retreat help a nervous cat settle. Before signing, read the lease for pet rent, deposits and any pet limits.
Yes, an indoor Domestic Medium Hair handles Roswell summers well with air conditioning, shade and fresh water. If a storm knocks out power, move the cat to the coolest room and watch for panting, drooling or lethargy, which call for a veterinarian. Never leave a cat in a parked car; humid, 90-degree afternoons make one dangerous within minutes.
A Domestic Medium Hair usually needs brushing two to three times a week, and daily during the spring and fall shedding. Roswell's humidity can let loose undercoat tangle, so work through the tufts at the belly, tail and behind the ears. Most owners groom at home with a comb and slicker brush, which falls under the Other costs in the table.
Yes, but only in a carrier. MARTA requires pets to ride in a secure rigid carrier with a lock or latch. Route 85 buses run through Historic Roswell to North Springs Station, the nearest train station, since Roswell has no rail of its own. Practice carrier training with treats beforehand, and check current fares and schedules with MARTA.
Major cat registries recognize anywhere from roughly 45 to more than 70 pedigreed breeds, depending on the registry, with counts changing as new breeds are accepted. Most pet cats, however, belong to no breed at all. Domestic shorthair, medium hair and longhair are coat descriptions for these mixed-ancestry cats, not breeds.
Medium hair on a cat means a coat noticeably longer and fluffier than a typical shorthair but shorter and less dense than a true longhair. Medium-haired cats often have a soft undercoat, a fuller or plumed tail, and tufts on the ears or between the toes, without the heavy neck ruff and long, flowing coat seen in longhaired cats like Persians.
A Domestic Medium Hair is a mixed-ancestry house cat with a coat between short and long. Shelters and veterinarians use the term to describe cats without a known pedigree, much like domestic shorthair and longhair. These cats come in every color and pattern, vary widely in personality and size, and make up a large share of cats available for adoption.
