A dilute tortoiseshell is a coat pattern rather than a breed. Where a classic tortie blends black and orange, a dilute shows blue-gray and cream in patches or a fine marbled mix, a softer palette that comes from a recessive dilution gene. Nearly all are female, because the patchwork depends on two X chromosomes.
Most dilute torties are domestic shorthairs or longhairs, typically medium cats of 6 to 14 pounds that live 12 to 18 years. Shedding is moderate, and longhairs need regular brushing. Tortitude is mostly folklore, so a cat's age, history and behavior when you meet matter far more than color. Expect a wide range, from shy to outgoing and from cuddly to independent.
