Applehead Siamese is the popular name for the traditional, old-style Siamese, a sturdier, rounder-headed cat than the wedge-headed Siamese seen in show rings. It looks much like the Siamese cats that first reached the West from Thailand in the late 1800s, and some registries recognize the type separately as the Thai. Many cats called appleheads are simply pointed cats of Siamese ancestry.
Expect a pale body with darker points and vivid blue eyes, usually 8 to 14 pounds. These cats are talkative, clever and affectionate, and many dislike long stretches alone. The short coat takes little work, so the main job is keeping a lively mind busy with play, puzzle feeders and company. Cats vary, so each cat's personality matters more than the label.
