The Abyssinian is a medium, lithe, fine-boned cat with a short, silky ticked coat in which each hair carries several bands of color. Ruddy, cinnamon, blue and fawn are the colors most registries recognize, and the large cupped ears and almond eyes give the face an alert, wild look. Most weigh 6 to 12 pounds and stay slender and muscular for life.
Personality is the real draw. Abys are inquisitive, athletic and attached to their people, following them from room to room and investigating every cabinet. They're not usually lap cats, and they get bored fast without play. In Gainesville's warm climate, that means an indoor life built around climbing space, puzzle feeders and daily interactive play. Coat care is easy, but dental care and a vet's eye on inherited conditions matter.
