Siamese cats trace back to the pointed cats of Thailand, once called Siam, and reached the United States in the late 1800s. Medium-sized and lean, usually 6 to 14 pounds, they have a short, fine coat with no undercoat, darker points on the face, ears, paws and tail, and vivid blue almond eyes. Shedding is light, and a weekly brushing is usually enough.
Many pointed cats you'll meet in Sacramento are Siamese mixes, and only pedigree papers confirm a purebred, so it's the cat's personality that counts. Expect a smart, social cat that follows you from room to room and comments on everything. Puzzle feeders, wand toys and a window with a view of the neighborhood's trees keep that mind busy. Lifespans run roughly 11 to 15 years.
