The Egyptian Mau is a medium-sized, short-coated cat with natural spots, green eyes and a lean, muscular build. Its long hind legs make it a quick sprinter and a strong jumper, so it tends to claim the highest shelf in a room. Weekly combing is usually enough for the coat, and shedding is low to moderate.
Many Maus bond closely with their people and take time to trust visitors. In LA, that can mean a busy household with frequent guests, so a quiet room and slow introductions help a cat settle. True Maus are uncommon in shelters, so you may meet spotted mixes; judge each cat by its behavior and history rather than its label.
