The Havana, also called the Havana Brown by some registries, came out of 1950s Britain, where Siamese cats that carried chocolate were paired with black shorthairs. The result is a medium, muscular cat, usually 6 to 10 pounds, with a glossy chocolate coat, brown whiskers, green eyes, big forward-tilted ears and a squared-off muzzle. Many live 10 to 15 years.
Havanas like to investigate, often tapping at toys, hands and anything new with a paw. Many chat in a softer voice than a Siamese. The short coat sheds little and needs only light brushing, so the real commitment is attention and play. In Little Rock, that suits a Midtown apartment or a Chenal Valley house, as long as someone is around part of the day.
