Birmans are colorpointed, semi-longhaired cats with pure white paws and deep blue eyes. The modern breed was developed in France after cats arrived from Burma around 1919, and the tale of sacred temple cats is legend rather than documented history. Points come in seal, blue, chocolate, lilac and several newer colors.
Many Birmans are gentle, sociable cats with soft voices who stay close to their people without being demanding. The silky coat has little undercoat, so it mats less than many longhaired breeds, though weekly combing still helps. Birmans take about three years to mature fully. For Little Rock adopters who want a mellow indoor companion, they're often an easy fit, though each cat's personality varies.
