Despite the name, the Balinese has no link to Indonesia. It's essentially a longhaired Siamese, developed in the United States in the 1940s and 1950s and named for the graceful movement of Balinese dancers. Expect a slender body, vivid blue eyes, colorpoint markings and a plumed tail, in either a modern wedge-headed type or a sturdier traditional one.
Many Balinese are bright, social cats that like to help with everything at home. They're usually a bit quieter than Siamese but still chatty, and they enjoy fetch, puzzle toys and high perches. In Little Rock's mix of bungalows and apartments, that means a home with climbing space and company. The single silky coat has no dense undercoat, so grooming stays simple.
