This sweetheart of a dog is Ansem. He might be missing a leg, but he does not let that affect his guarding duties -- chasing squirrels out of the yard is necessary and a responsibility he takes seriously. He is a Pyr through and through. Ansem is a happy guy, but he has certainly been through the wringer. He lost his leg after being hit by a car but he has recovered well and gets around just fine on 3 legs. He also tested positive for heartworm on arrival but he's completed treatment and gained some much needed weight. He is a big boy at 90 pounds so his adopter will need to manage his weight, as extra pounds are a lot harder to handle when you're a tripod. At 6 years old, Ansem has experienced a lot of living, but he still has several good years ahead of him and he would like to enjoy those years lounging in a backyard. Ansem LOVES being outside, so much so that you might need to carry him back inside when it's time to call it a night. A home with a large fenced yard (and maybe a doggy door) is a must for this boy and his new family must be ok with him spending more time outside than inside. That said, we still expect him to be an "indoor" dog, so if you're reading this and think he can just live outside, move along. He is completely trustworthy in the house, he just prefers an abundance of fresh air. Ansem gets along with everyone -- dogs, cats and kids. He is affectionate but not needy. He is gentle but can still be playful. He is a smart boy but can be very stubborn, so an adopter with Pyr experience is preferred.
